Tay-Sachs disease

Tay-Sachs disease is an autosomal recessive disease most common in individuals of Eastern European Jewish, French Canadian, or Cajun descent. Tay-Sachs disease causes deterioration in both mental and physical abilities. Individuals with Tay-Sachs disease usually die by age 5. A less common form affects adults rather than children.
