Turnaround Time

9 - 12 days Turnaround time is defined as the usual number of days from the date of pickup of a specimen for testing to when the result is released to the ordering provider. In some cases, additional time should be allowed for additional confirmatory or additional reflex tests. Testing schedules may vary.

Use

Determine fetal karyotype.

Special Instructions

Please call our Client Services Department prior to sending first specimen. If additional testing such as DNA is indicated, call Client Services for further specimen requirements. If prior NIPT or maternal serum screening studies have been performed, include copy of report.

15-20 mitotic spreads counted from separate in situ colonies and 2 banded karyotypes prepared

Storage Instructions

Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not freeze.

Frozen specimen; hemolysis; quantity not sufficient for analysis; improper container; unlabeled or mislabeled specimen)

Collection

Discard first 2 mL; then 15-25 mL amniotic fluid (less if early amniocentesis)
